The Effects of Adult Education Programmes on Offenders: A Case Study of Thohoyandou Correctional Centre

Abstrak

Program pendidikan orang dewasa di lembaga pemasyarakatan telah diakui secara luas sebagai sarana mendasar untuk mencapai tujuan utama rehabilitasi, reintegrasi, dan pengurangan residivisme. Namun, pertanyaan mengenai seberapa efektif program-program tersebut, serta pengalaman para warga binaan dalam mengikuti pembelajaran orang dewasa di fasilitas pemasyarakatan Afrika Selatan, masih menyisakan celah informasi yang perlu diisi. Studi kasus kualitatif ini mengkaji pengaruh Program Pendidikan Orang Dewasa terhadap warga binaan di Lembaga Pemasyarakatan Thohoyandou, Provinsi Limpopo. Penelitian yang didasarkan pada Teori Modal Manusia dan Teori Rehabilitasi ini menyoroti potensi pendidikan orang dewasa dalam membebaskan individu, perannya dalam pembentukan kembali identitas, serta dampak pendidikan terhadap masa depan warga binaan. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara semi-terstruktur, analisis dokumen, dan observasi lapangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa AEP secara signifikan meningkatkan harga diri, peluang kerja, rasa tanggung jawab sosial, dan pertumbuhan pribadi warga binaan, meskipun mereka terus menghadapi berbagai tantangan seperti keterbatasan sumber daya, tenaga pengajar yang kurang berkualifikasi, kepadatan berlebih, serta ketidakteraturan dalam pelaksanaan program. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa penerapan AEP yang dirancang dengan baik dan didanai secara memadai berperan penting dalam rehabilitasi warga binaan, penurunan tingkat residivisme, dan reintegrasi ke dalam masyarakat. Untuk meningkatkan efisiensi program, disarankan agar pihak lembaga memberikan dukungan lebih besar, alokasi dana ditambah, dan program tersebut lebih didiversifikasi.
